Mr. John Erkman, class of 1961 and a graduate of Bellermine and Santa Clara University, returned to Sacred Heart Parish School to teach middle school for several years. Fellow alumna and instructor Mrs. Terry Cruz recalls that Mr. Erkman was known for his love of students, his upbeat sense of humor and his ability to listen from the heart. Watching students grow was both his joy and his passion. After leaving Sacred Heart, Mr. Erkman had a long and distinguished career in education for more than 30 years that ran the gamut from teaching special education to working in the superintendents office. His final job, which he truly enjoyed was serving as Dean of Students of Woodside Priory. Mr. Erkman passed away in 2007.
