
Awards Given At Graduation to 8th Grade Students
Knights of Columbus Award
The Knights of Columbus Award is presented to two students in Eighth Grade (one boy and one girl) who exhibit second highest GPA and ITBS scores, exceptional academic promise, and consistent good effort and conduct.
Parent Club Award
The Parent Club Award (PASS) is presented to two Eighth Grade students each year. Students receiving this honor are well-rounded students, who take part in extra-curricular activities, exhibit highest academic achievement (GPA and ITBS scores), and receive above average marks in effort and conduct.
YLI Award
The YLI (Young Ladies Institute) Award is presented to two students (girl and boy if possible) who have shown the most improvement in academic achievement/grades, attitude, and effort over the course of their eighth grade year.
Spartan Athletic Award
The Spartan Athletic Award is presented to one girl and one boy in Eighth Grade. Students for this award possess qualities that include athletic ability, academic eligibility, participation on multiple sports teams, good sportsmanship, and respect for other athletes and coaches.
Citizenship Award
The Citizenship Award is presented to two students in Eighth Grade who consistently exhibit good conduct, set an example of appropriate behavior, and volunteer to help without complaint.
Barney McCullough Award
The Barney McCullough Award is presented to two-four students annually. Criteria for this special award include leadership, participation and service to both Sacred Heart Parish School and the larger Sacred Heart/St. Benedict Parish community (give their time to serve both school and church).
Palma High School Brother Edmund Rice Academic Scholarship
The Palma High School Brother Edmund Rice Academic Scholarship is a $6,000 award distributed over four years to a deserving student in recognition of solid academic achievement and consistently good citizenship who will be attending Palma High School the following year.
Requirements for this scholarship are as follows:
- Must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA each semester;
- Must be a credit to his school and graduate in good standing in the community;
- Must be involved in at least one extra-curricular activity during each semester of the scholarship;
- Must be a gentleman at all times, both in and out of school, and continue to be a credit to his family and school;
- Must have taken the Palma Placement Exam during the Spring Semester of his Eighth Grade years; and
- Understands this scholarship is limited and subject to school academic and discipline minimums being maintained and that this scholarship will be suspended and/or forfeited should he be placed on academic or discipline probation.
St. Francis High School Don Bosco Award
The St. Francis High School Don Bosco Award is given to a student who will be attending St. Francis High School in the fall and exemplifies the characteristics of the educational style of St. John Bosco, which include: A welcoming attitude, the ability to make friends, courage to live a faith-filled life, serious commitment to life-long learning and to the moral life. This award consists of a $500 book scholarship and a medal.
St. Francis High School Presidential Scholarship
St. Francis High School Presidential Scholarship is awarded to incoming ninth grade students within the diocese that have demonstrated excellence in academics, community or parish service, leadership in school and outstanding character. This $20,000 scholarship is distributed over the four years at St. Francis if the high standard is maintained. Recipient determined by St. Francis High School.
Requirements for this scholarship include:
- Minimum GPA of 3.5
- Must be involved in community service
- Conduct must be exemplary
- Must be involved in extra-curricular activities
Notre Dame High School Scholarship
The Notre Dame High School Scholarship is awarded to a student who will be attending Notre Dame High School in the fall. This scholarship recipient exhibits solid academic achievement and consistently good citizenship.
